Thank you for following the link to this page. This page has been set up to connect you with a very special construction project in Nepal, and to enable you to be part of an ongoing journey towards sustainable facilities—enabling sustainable service—in benefit of Nepali children who are survivors of human trafficking.
First, I would love to briefly introduce you to my wife Pippa, and to our fantastic three children. As a family we have now spent over seven years living and working in Nepal. In fact, our children have collectively spent more time abroad now than in the UK—true world citizens.
For myself, and speaking as a chartered Construction Manager/Project Manager, I have thrived on the challenges of facilitating infrastructure development in this fast changing South Asian country, supporting local NGOs. You can find out more about my professional journey via my LinkedIn profile.
Six months ago, I was delighted to accept a position with Ally, having been impressed by their passionate response to the evil which is human trafficking in this part of Asia. I was impressed by the commitment to enabling local partners to excel in providing high quality, state-recognised care and support.
Tobias:
Ally is in the process of building brand new safe home facilities on five acres of land they have purchased, which will drastically reduce operational costs and expand their capacity to care for more children.
They have entrusted me with a Senior Project Manager role, to steer stakeholders through the design management and delivery phase of their capital construction project.
In this video Randy Watson (Ally's CEO) and I are reflecting on the project, and how I came to passionately support it.
I would like to do more than provide leadership, facilitate processes and lend technical expertise. I want to give two weeks of my time this autumn to help raise funds towards the realization of ‘Free to Fly’ Phase 2: new safe homes, catering for up to 200 children in need of long-term care.
In order to do this, and having taken inspiration from the annual Yak Attack Multi Terrain Bike (MTB) race around the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, I will attempt in early October 2025 to cycle that 220km trekking route and cross the 5400m Thorung La pass before descending to Mukhtinath and Beni on two wheels (nine days of cycling overall).
I may be accompanied by the two Vokuhl teenagers, and up to three other cycling enthusiasts/project supporters, with Pippa and our youngest daughter acting as support crew in a 4x4 vehicle, which can reach up to 3500m via jeep tracks.
If you feel drawn to the work of Ally, to the project ethos, to what we do as a family, or maybe to the desire to promote sustainable construction methods, then why not support my MTB ride through sponsorship?
I am specifically fundraising for the guardhouse, utilizing CSEB walls. I have broken down the costs as below. Some items (training, equipment, pre-construction CSEB manufacture) are uniquely suited for corporate sponsorship, whilst the guardhouse building costs (RCC frame, CSEB infill walls, doors, windows, plaster paint, etc.) have been translated into ‘blocks’ for personal sponsorship.
Why not sponsor a block, or several! The overall target sum, to cover the introduction of CSEB blocks to the project, and to construct the guardhouse with these, is £31,092.
