Things took a dark turn when Kaili grew close to the male housekeeper who worked in her aunt’s house, and he started asking Kaili for sexual favours.

What started as a hopeful new chapter for Kaili* quickly turned into a nightmare, as she found herself trapped exploitation.

Kaili* was just a young girl from a small village in Nepal, searching for a way to make a life for herself in the big city of Kathmandu.

Without many connections or a support system, she went to stay with her aunt and began working for her, slowly adjusting to the new pace of life.

Despite the challenges, Kaili even managed to make a new friend, someone her own age to confide in and share experiences with.

Things escalated, and Kaili became a victim of sex trafficking, with the housekeeper introducing her to other individuals.

Initially, Kaili declined the housekeeper’s requests, but eventually, it became a regular occurrence.

As she began to feel more isolated and vulnerable in the city, she would turn to him for help with family and personal issues, but he would exploit these situations. 

When the Covid-19 lockdown began, Kaili wanted to stay with the new friend she had made—but the housekeeper became enraged and locked her up in a room with little food or water.

Thankfully, Kaili was eventually able to confide in her friend about the abuse, and the friend bravely called the police.

Thanks to her friend’s courage, the police caught the trafficker and Kaili was rescued.

However, her journey to safety was far from over. Kalli was stuck in the legal court system due to her underage status—and the extreme Covid-19 lockdowns in-country at the time caused lengthy delays. 

Our local partner team tirelessly pleaded her case in the supreme court, and after several visits to the police office, the case was finally resolved.

Today, Kaili is safe and thriving in our local partner's safe home.
